Benji Heinke
BioDiscography
Benji Heinke is an artist/musician based in Southampton, UK.
Born in Somerset in 1995, he studied BA (Hons) Fine Art at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 2017. His eponymous debut album (2018), was written and recorded in his Winchester apartment and introduced his blend of jangle pop, post-punk influence and diaristic songwriting.
Heinke’s subsequent releases chart a clear progression in sound and outlook. Still Life (2022) adopted a more refined production style, while Projector (2023) combined distorted guitars and synthesisers with Pop Art-inspired visuals. Movement (2024) looked to early 1980s synth and guitar textures, exploring themes of distance and isolation through both music and artwork.
In 2025 he released Detergent, a concentrated seven-track record marked by prominent synthesisers, drum machines and a sharper lyrical balance between the abstract and the personal. Later that year came New Technique, his sixth album and first fully committed to alternative dance, distilling his post-punk foundations into a lean, rhythmic and forward-looking sound.
Trained as a painter and printmaker, Heinke also creates the artwork for all his releases.
